Cerress Island Cleopatra Beach
Cerdir island is located geographically and administratively within the borders of Ula. However, we are located as Marmaris district in terms of its proximity to Marmaris and ease of transportation for guests. The road that leaves the 12.km of Marmaris – Mugla road to the left, after 6 km, takes you to another point of Gokova Bay , Çamlı Pier. Boats departing from Çamlı pier go to cedir island. Cerdir island is known for the Ancient City of Kedrai and the famous Cleopatra Beach. Kedrai is a city of Karia, later connected to Rhodes. Kedrai means cet. Although the presence of cedir on the island is unknown, this is the name of the ancient Greek. Kedrai, one of the most important settlements of Rhodes , was surrounded by walls. Apollon temple is located in the Dor order in the central part of the city, where towers and walls can be viewed from the shore. Only the foundations have survived from the temple to the present day. Agora, in addition to various building ruins and the urban necropolis, has a thiatro in good condition with a north face in the eastern part of the island. Apart from large urbanizations such as Knidos, only three of the first age settlements are seen in marmaris – Bozburun region, which is called Rhodes Karsiyaka. During the Peloponnessos wars between Athens and Isparta, General Lysander of Isparta attacked the city in 405 BC because he was an ally of Athens, capturing the island and enslaving its people.
There is a narrative related to Cleopatra, which is told from the golden sands of the island. The most common narrative is that the sands were brought by ships from Egypt to meet Queen Cleopatra of Egypt and her lover, The Roman commander Antony, on the island. The sands on the north coast of the island are specially formed limestone droplets and are only visible on the island of Crete except Cedir in the Aegean / Mediterranean. The island and the sands that emerged as a result of very special geological formations and decreased are protected in accordance with the Cultural and Natural Assets Protection Law No. 2863.
Cerdir island continues to attract visitors with its golden sand of Kloeopatra Beach and sea reflecting different shades of blue.
